Family: Zingiberaceae
Turmeric goes as far back to 4000 years to the region of North-west India. It’s typical taste profile is warm, ginger, dense and slightly dusty with a typical vermillion sunset orange hue. Because of its rich vibrant color, it is used in countless spice mixtures and its ability to bring together spice flavours in a dish.
Its main component, curcumin, has mediciinal properties, and has gained widespread positive popularity in recent years due to its high anti-inflammatory benefits. When paired with Black Pepper (piperine), it greatly enhances the benefits of curcumin.
