This treaty will not solve climate change, but sets us on a path to solve it.

WHY NOT?

The current emissions reductions given by nations will result in 2.7 deg C increase in temperature. The mention of 1.5 and 2 deg C is only a recognition of a limit and an aspiration.

WHY IT WILL

1) The move to renewable energy has started and can’t be stopped.

2) Agreement got the Nations of the world to agree that 1.5 and 2 deg C is the limit.

3) The treaty allows a lot of room for change in the near future.

National Reductions Targets will be reviewed every 5 years. On the other hand, if this was a legally binding long term treaty, it would mean no review for and inaction for 20 years!

PEOPLE POWER

We don’t need an agreement to solve climate change. People are talking, discussing, moving and acting. Change is at hand.
